Hattiesburg, Mississippi native, Josh Waters enthralls with his melodic and soulful sound. The 25 year-old R&B and Soul artist captivates during his God Is Dope Live Performance.
He takes the God Is Dope Live stage with a beautiful performance of "U Remind Me" by Usher and his original piece "Just The Same" accompanied by pianist HoodMusik.
Would you interpret your skills as a gift from God or a learned talent?
Josh: Definitely a gift from God that I’ve had to constantly work on and perfect.
What genre would you classify your music as?
Josh: I make R&b/soul music. I have a very soulful sound and a tone that’s reminiscent of the legendary artist, Usher, Neyo and Musiq Soulchild. A very nostalgic sound to say the least.
How were you introduced into your love of music?
Josh: I grew up singing in the church and just around music in general. My mom was a vocalist and my older brother was/is a percussionist and a all around musician period. I pretty much just gravitated towards it over time and eventually fell in love. I would love to collaborate with Isaiah Rashad, Don Toliver, and probably Chloe Bailey.
What emotions do you hope to invoke with your music?
Josh: I really want to hit everything.. mainly positive, loving emotions that remind people to love on themselves or just being mindful of the love we’re giving and receiving in general.
What is your creative process like?
Josh: It’s honestly depends on the day. I’ve been creating for some time now and so I’m well versed in working my way around the studio when it comes to making songs.. I usually find something genuine to focus on and draw the rest from there.
What project(s) are you currently working on?
Josh: My debut album is on the way!! I’m so excited about this body of work!! My first single “Cyclone” will be released in October. So definitely be on the look out for that.
